Five Easy Ways to Give Your Home a Summer Makeover

If a summer vacation isn’t on your calendar, a few seasonal decor updates will help you feel like you’re embarking on a getaway every time you walk in your front door. We’ve compiled five ways to turn your house into a summer oasis, while benefiting from all the comforts of home.

Two lawn chairs

Front porch: Bring the tranquility of a backyard retreat to the front, so you and your guests are greeted with a calming welcome upon arrival. Create a sitting area, add outdoor pillows and a position variety of oversized potted flowers to create a resort like appearance.

Bedroom: Don’t limit fresh flowers to the kitchen table or main living area. Keep a bouquet on your nightstand or dresser, so you start each day with a view of bright blooms.

Living Room: Take full advantage of the long days by keeping the curtains and windows open. Swap out your heavy blankets for lightweight throws and colored pillows. Restyle your coffee table and incorporate a natural element like flowers, a bowl of fruit, or a topiary, to give your room’s focal point a new look. Reposition your furniture to face a window or sliding door, so you can still enjoy the outdoors from inside. Keep a stack of new magazines or books you’ve been meaning to read to encourage you to slow down, take a seat and enjoy your updated view.

Kitchen: Switch your dark wood chairs for a set of white or rattan chairs, and update the cushions with bright colored or patterned fabric s to add a low-commitment pop of color to your kitchen. Add a line of farmer’s market flowers, bright dishes and a nautical lantern for a summer inspired tablescape.

Backyard: Create a dining, entertaining and lounging space in your backyard, and you won’t feel the need to dine out all summer. Stock up on items necessary for summer entertaining (ex: a large tray to carry food and drinks outside, plastic dishes/silverware, drink dispenser and food/beverage staples like lemons, chilled wine/beer, cheese twists, nuts, hummus, crackers)  so you are always prepared to host an impromptu get together. Add a bright tablecloth (don’t forget tablecloth clamps for windy evenings), placemats, twinkle lights, a portable firepit and garden stools, to create an instant outdoor space to both entertain and retreat.
